I had an epiphany the other day about how to make an illuminated acrylic sign on the cheap. It uses a tealight as the illumination source. They make ones that do not flicker like a candle and they also come in different colors. I made a very quick and rough proof of concept. Sorry about the poor quality of the pics.

  3. What are the specs on your materials? Where did you source the tea light? What type of wood did you use for the base?
What type of acrylic did you use and thickness. Thanks.

  4. I used some basic 3/8th ply, tealight from the dollar store and some 4 mm acrylic. All except the tealight came from the hardware store.

  5. HalfNormal - Settings for the acrylic? I've cut some before, but not engraved. Your idea has spawned an idea and I'm headed to the hardware store :)

  6. It is best to cut it slow and low power. If you notice the cracks in my test, it's because I was rushing and ran it hot and fast.
